Zakir Husain College became the city champions in the inaugural edition of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports Tournament, Delhi. More than 60 colleges took part in the college category across Delhi and NCR in the league cum knockout tournament. During the championship ZHC played a total of 7 matches. There destructive strike force scored a whopping 24 goals and their rock solid defence at the back complemented them very well conceding a merely 2 goals. In the final match they faced St Stephen’s College under the floodlights. Both the teams showed great pace in the match and played attacking football in the first 20 minutes. Finally ZHC took the lead in the 43rd minute through Distant Negi. The leading team made sure that they went into half time preserving their lead. In the second half the trailing team pushed up the tempo in the search of the equalizing goal but ZHC’s rigid defence made sure that they didn’t through away their one-goal advantage. Zakir Husain Delhi college take the mannequin challenge... In the 80th minute Ashutosh Thapliyal made it 2-0 and booked his team’s tickets to the Mumbai Finals. The winning coach Rajat Guha said, “The team has performed well but there are lots of places where we have to improve. Specifically in the finishing department. As the conversion ratio is not so impressive and midfielders need to control the pace of the game more.
