Lewis Hamilton Calls for Car Restrictions to End' Periods of Dominance' by Teams

As a Formula 1 driver for Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton is unhappy with the racing industry. The racecar driver is calling for car restrictions to end what he calls 'Periods of Dominance' by various teams in the circuit. According to Hamilton, changes are needed to ensure that the playing field is fair for every competitor. 

What is Hamilton Suggesting?

Hamilton feels that if everyone had the same time frame to work on their next car, it would level the playing field. This would then create more excitement for the fans of the sport. Existing rules already try to close the gap between teams, including the sliding scale of research and development time that favors weaker teams. 

Another factor that Formula 1 requires is budget caps. Red Bull recently discovered the hard way that the budget gap must be followed. In 2021, the team exceeded the cap and paid the price. An additional restriction was placed on the team regarding permitted development as punishment. 

Hamilton stated that he did not make comments toward any one person or team. It is a general observation about how the sport has dominance cycles. The driver even pointed out that he had seen a period of dominance from 2014 to 2020 with Mercedes. He feels this should not be the normal format for the racing industry, and changes should be made to ensure a fair season.

Max Verstappen is Currently Experiencing a Period of Dominance

Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing has dismissed Hamilton's comments as the current dominant leader of the sport. So far, in 2023, Red Bull Racing remains unbeaten and has claimed eight Grand Prix wins. The team also secured a Sprint win. 

Verstappen has a 69-point lead over the second-place points leader and shows no signs of slowing down. The Red Bull driver feels that life is unfair, and it's not just Formula 1. He also pointed out that periods of dominance were not part of the discussions when Hamilton was winning. Basically, it seems that Verstappen is stating that Hamilton is only speaking out because he is behind during the current season.

Looking Ahead

Hamilton has upgraded his car to try and be more competitive this season. Upgrades are helping the car move in the right direction, with Hamilton stating it feels more like a real racing car. The McLaren Formula 1 team is also making headway this season. Team boss Andrea Stella has announced a milestone development, with upgrades beginning with the season's fourth race. The plan will continue with a step development plan, with new parts fitted to Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri's race car. 

The upgrades were made to enhance the team's overall performance, hopefully giving them a better shot at pushing ahead of Red Bull Racing and other competitors.
