BREAKING: Daniel Ricciardo replaces Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri for the rest of the F1 2023 season
The Australian driver is back on the paddock
It’s no secret that Nyck de Vries’s disappointing start to Formula 1 has raised questions about his place in the sport, especially when a driver like Daniel Ricciardo is waiting on the sidelines. Now, following the recent Pirelli tire test as the iconic Silverstone circuit, AlphaTauri has announced that they are parting ways with the Dutchman, and Daniel Ricciardo, the third driver for Red Bull Racing, will be taking his position.
The team expressed their delight in welcoming Daniel Ricciardo back, emphasizing his exceptional driving skills and familiarity with many team members. As a result, AlphaTauri expects a smooth transition and hopes to finally compete for points with the eight-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner.
“I’m very pleased to welcome Daniel back into the team. There’s no doubt about his driving skill, and he already knows many of us, so his integration will be easy and straightforward,” said AlphaTauri boss Franz Tost.
Pressure back on Yuki
While it’s still too early to make assumptions, this sudden change in the AlphaTauri seat after de Vries’s underwhelming 17th-place finish at the British Grand Prix could add pressure to Yuki Tsunoda, who has had a great season so far. This is because Daniel, who is looking to prove himself once again, will undoubtedly push the car to its limits and challenge Yuki for points.
Moreover, Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, praised Ricciardo’s performance during the recent test, commending his impressive times and expressing excitement about what lies ahead for him while on loan at Scuderia AlphaTauri.
“I’m stoked to be back on track with the Red Bull family!” said Daniel Ricciardo.
However, it is important to note that Tost also took a moment to thank Nyck de Vries for his contributions during his time with Scuderia AlphaTauri and wished him the best for his future endeavours. Nevertheless, this decision is much appreciated by fans who have been eager to see Daniel in an F1 car since the beginning of this year.
