Game Science has recently revealed a new six-minute Chinese New Year special video for their upcoming action RPG game, Black Myth Zhong Kui.

The in-engine video, made to mark Lunar New Year, highlights the studio’s technological skills while also providing insight into the game’s environment and tone.

However, do note that the developers have specially clarified that this video is purely for entertainment purposes and is not part of the game’s official storyline or canon combat. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Cooking monster in Black Myth Zhong Kui

The new Chinese New Year special video features an ancient-style cooking video, where a woman is preparing dishes using fantastical ingredients (including monsters) inspired by Chinese Folklore.

Monster fish spirits, tree spirits, and other magical elements come to life thanks to extremely detailed animations, realistic physics, and spectacular lighting effects.

You can also see some monsters helping her to prepare the dish. Towards the end, we see the dish is presented to a kidnapped person whose face is hidden by the cloth.

Shortly after the release, this video has already gained a lot of traction from the fans. The video reportedly received four million views on Bilibili in only five hours, and one million views on Weibo, demonstrating the growing excitement over the title.

Producer Feng Ji talked of the project as an experimental work, dubbing it as Zhong Kui experiment on the tip of the tongue.

They have brought about doubt in the fans that the later gaming parts will involve specialty mechanisms, like monster hunting and cooking mechanisms, although nothing has been officially confirmed.
