Fans are mad over the female protagonist and many other things
On July 10, 2025, Sony PlayStation hosted a State of Play for their upcoming exclusive title from Sucker Punch Studio, Ghost of Yotei.
Many fans and gamers really liked the sequel’s visuals, combat, new features and modes that were revealed. However, there is a very huge backlash from the fans who are complaining about many things in the game.
Recycled game with female protagonist
This is what most of the fans are talking about, Ghost of Yotei and they have actively shared this on social media that they are not interested in playing the ugly female lead.
Most of them wanted Jin Sakai’s story to be continued or any other male samurai. There has also been a complaint about how the story feels pretty similar to Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. The revenge premise seems pretty lame and identical. The Ghost of Tsushima plot and premise were 10 times better than this.
On the other hand, many fans really didn’t like the female lead in the game. Even if there are some who don’t care about this, they are still complaining about the character design.
There are also many complaints about how the gameplay and world seem pretty similar to the first game and there is nothing new or innovative in the sequel.
Final thoughts
Personally, I have zero complaint with this game and I am pretty hyped for this. I can separate Art from the Artist and all that matters to me is the good combat, gameplay and the story.
Just like me, many fans are pretty excited for Ghost of Yotei. We have new weapons mechanics, the world and immersion have evolved so much from the first game.
There is a new “SAMURAI CHAMPLOO LO-FI BEATS” which seems pretty cool, with many other features that were showcased at State of Play.
All that matters now is how good the revenge story will be in this game. I won’t deny that so far the premise looks pretty okay and it feels weak if we compare it with Ghost of Tsushima.
