Nearly 1000 companies are suing the government

The gaming giant Nintendo has reportedly filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Government. They have claimed that certain tariffs on imports were unlawful.

The company is now looking for a refund of the tariffs paid, along with interest. This follows a recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, which declared the tariff collection illegal.

This is connected to a tariff that is imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). According to the legal reports, these tariffs were collected by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

But now the Supreme Court has ruled that the agency did not have the authority to collect them in this case. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Tariff impacted Nintendo Switch 2 launch

This issue has impacted the preparation for the launch of Switch 2. Around early 2025, the company was ramping up production & imports for its next-generation handheld console. The tariffs placed additional financial pressure on the company.

Nevertheless, Nintendo also seemingly tried to retain the fundamental prices of the console in the United States. Nonetheless, the corporation was forced to adjust prices on a number of accessories related to the new system because of the budget.

In the lawsuit, the legal team has claimed that the company suffered financial harm due to these tariffs and is now demanding a refund for all payments made starting from February 2025, along with interest.

Conclusion

Nintendo is not the only one that is taking action against the U.S. Government. Following the Supreme Court ruling, nearly 1000 companies are also pursuing similar lawsuits.

The company has also previously criticized officials for using Pokémon imagery in a social media post. They have clarified that the company does not support or align itself with any political agenda.
