Sony might be considering long-term plans for Portal!

The popular PS5 remote-play handheld launched in November 2023, Sony PlayStation Portal could now get another major upgrade. Reliable insider, Zuby_Tech (shared on X), recently posted about a model refresh featuring an OLED screen and a potential 120Hz refresh rate.

This would make high-frame-rate PS5 games (like those aiming for 120fps) appear smoother and more vivid on the fly. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Sony’s long-term support for PlayStation Portal

For now, the Portal has an 8-inch 1080p LCD at 60Hz. This is quite impressive for remote play, but OLED might take it to an entirely new level.

Deeper colors, better contrast and much better refresh rate with frames. Portal was a niche accessory at the beginning; however, all the latest updates have evolved this handheld into a key part of Sony’s ecosystem.

Currently, PS Plus subscribers can stream digital PS5 games directly, no home console needed. You can easily play Astro Bot, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V, Resident Evil 4, Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarök, and many more games from Game Catalog/Classics.

Also, one person can stream via Cloud play while another may use the PS5 for local gaming. Ongoing software tweaks have also improved stability and performance.

PlayStation Portal with OLED might be a game-changer

PlayStation Portal with OLED + 120Hz version will surely attract more attention from gamers. You can easily expect them to buy this handheld just for this feature.

For now, the official confirmation from Sony has yet to be announced. As for the prices, we have no idea whether it will cost the same or will have a slight increase in pricing because of the OLED display.
