New simple payment process

Sony has recently introduced Apple Pay as a payment option for the PlayStation 5 (PS5), making it easier for players to purchase games, DLCs, in-game purchases and more.

This was previously available on PlayStation App and browser, but now it is finally available on console as well. Let’s check out more details in this article.

Apple Pay now on PS5: What’s new?

Apple Pay joins existing payment methods such as credit/debit cards, PayPal, Cash App, and Venmo to provide a secure, contactless way to shop at the PlayStation Store.

Players can now use Apple Pay at the checkout, scan a QR code using an iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 (or later), and finish transactions with their Apple Wallet.

This shortened method improves ease, particularly for the 700 million global Apple Pay users estimated by Statista in 2024.

However, availability is restricted to certain locations; see Sony’s official support website for a complete list.

How to use Apple Pay on PS5?

  • Open the PlayStation store on your PlayStation 5.
  • Purchase any game, DLC or subscription, that you want to buy for now.
  • In the cart, click the three dots next to “Confirm Purchase” and then choose Change Payment Method.
  • Select Apple Pay and then tap “Confirm Purchase.”
  • To charge your Apple Wallet, simply scan the displayed QR code with your iPhone or iPad.
  • Check the payment method below the cart total to see if it is compatible with Apple Pay.

Setting up Apple Pay

  • Launch the Wallet app and tap the Add Button (a gray circle with a black +).
  • Select a card and then touch Continue.
  • Scan your card or enter the information manually.
  • Complete the authentication procedures to finish the setup.

There is no doubt that most gamers would have an iPhone, as Apple has always been the best choice when it comes to smartphones.

Having Apple Pay on PS5 will now make things more easily for the gamers who want to buy games, DLC, subscription and more from the store.
