No more single-player games on PC

Sony Interactive Entertainment might once again be changing its strategy, as new reports on Sony PlayStation suggest it is going for single-player title exclusivity on its console.

That means all the single-player titles will now only be available on PS5 and will not arrive on PC or Xbox Series X/S. Let’s check out some more details in this article.

Upcoming single-player titles will remain Sony PlayStation exclusive

In 2020, PlayStation started to bring its exclusive games to PC and the first game was Horizon Zero Dawn. Since then, we have seen many PlayStation games that have arrived on Steam and Epic Games Store like God of War, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Stellar Blade, The Last of Us Part 1 and more.

The reports claimed that the PC releases generated strong revenue for the company over the years, but not as much as it was expected. Now, it appears that the company might be reconsidering the strategy for its future releases.

According to Bloomberg, PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst has recently informed his staff during a Town Hall meeting that the upcoming PlayStation single-player titles will remain PlayStation exclusives moving forward.

Competition from Steam Machine

One of the major reasons behind this strategy could be the upcoming Valve console, Steam Machine.

Since this hardware device can provide access to the Steam library, Sony PlayStation might be concerned about its PlayStation titles that can become accessible on competing hardware outside the PlayStation ecosystem.

By applying this strategy, Sony could strengthen the console exclusivity for their single-player titles in the future.

Conclusion

If you were wondering about when Ghost of Yotei, Saros, Wolvering and upcoming titles will arrive on PC, then bad news for you, as these games will now only be available to play on the PS5 console.

However, at the same time, Sony PlayStation live-service and multiplayer games will remain to launch across multiple platforms.

Is PlayStation stopping PC ports completely?

Reports suggest Sony may reduce PC releases for narrative-driven first-party single-player games, but multiplayer titles could still launch on multiple platforms.

Why is Sony PlayStation focusing on exclusives again?

The move is reportedly aimed at strengthening the PlayStation ecosystem and avoiding competition from Steam-based gaming hardware.

Has Sony officially confirmed the strategy shift?

Sony has not publicly confirmed the changes yet, but reports claim the decision was discussed internally by PlayStation leadership.
