The hope is there
Recently, Take Two’s investor meeting revealed many things about how the company looks forward to GTA 6 and other games. The CEO of T2 revealed the reason behind releasing the game only on console for now.
In this article, we will see the reasons why they are focusing the game on consoles for now and more information about the game. So, without wasting any more time, let’s get right into it.
Take-Two’s selective approach with GTA 6
During the recent investor meeting, Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick shed light on their platform strategy:
- Platform Importance: Zelnick highlighted the growing importance of PC gaming, underlining that if one platform loses value, others remain viable. He sees PC as an open medium with room to grow, which Take-Two can easily support.
- choosy Releases: Zelnick stated that Take-Two is choosy about which platforms it supports at launch. Historically, this selective strategy has resulted in lengthier wait times for Rockstar games on PC.

A history of delayed PC releases
It’s not the first time, the fans will be seeing a delayed release of a Rockstar game on PC. Here’s a quick look at past releases:
- Bully: This game was launched on the console in 2006, with a PC version following in 2008.
- Grand Theft Auto IV: This game launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in April 2008, with the PC version arriving in December of the same year.
- Grand Theft Auto V: Initially released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, the PC version was not available until April 2015.
- Red Dead Redemption 2: This was released in October 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, with PC fans having to wait until November 2019.
Now, this pattern is going to continue with the upcoming GTA 6 as well. The game is currently scheduled to release in fall 2025 for Xbox Series X/S and PS5. Meanwhile, PC fans are still in the dark about the release date.
Why the wait?
Several reasons could explain the reason for the late release of the game on PC. Launching GTA 6 on consoles first can boost sales and maintain a good relationship with manufacturers like Sony and Microsoft.
Rockstar focuses on optimizing the game for consoles first, where the hardware is consistent, which simplifies the development process. PCs, with their wide range of configurations, demand more thorough testing and optimization.
By potentially delaying the game, the company can double dip by selling the game twice to the same customer base and fans, first on console and later on PC.
Although there is no confirmation from the company itself, seeing the past history and strong desire for sales, fans can sigh a relief that eventually the game will make it on PC.
