Matt Wallace is leading the first round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson 2024 played on Thursday in McKinney, Texas. He birdied five of his six holes and sailed to an eight under par 63. He needed his bogey-free round with the birdie at the five-par 18th hole.

Wallace gave a nice confrontation to the Japanese phenom Taiga Semikawa, who had a chance to tie the lead till the night, but he ended for the three-putt par at No. 18, and Wallace became one shot clear of seven players who ended up tying at 64. 

Matt Wallace: Professional Journey

Matt Wallace is an English professional golfer born on April 12, 1990, in Hillingdon, London, England. He attended Jacksonville College University and turned professional in 2012. He holds 11 professional wins in his career as of April 2024, with the highest ranking of 24 on July 14, 2019. 

In 2016, Wallace won six tournaments in the Alps Tour, which enabled him to win the Order of Merit. On April 26, 2023, Wallace won his first PGA Tour, the Corales Puntacana Championship, with a margin of one stroke against Nicolai Hojgaard. He also won the European tour four times, three in 2018 and once in 2017. 

Matt Wallace debuted in the majors in 2017 through the US Open but could not make it through the cut. However, in 2019, he reached T3 in the PGA Championship, which was his best finish in the tournament, and T65 in 2023.

For the 2023 Open Championship, he could pass the cut for the tournament; his best ending in the tournament was T40 in 2021. In other majors, he reached T12 in the US Open 2019 and T34 in the 2021 Masters Tournament.
