Jeev Milka Singh trails by solitary shot to Joakim Haeggman.
Jeev Milkha Singh, who is one shot off the lead after two rounds at the inaugural India Legends Championship, is on the threshold of a signficant milestone in his amazing career.
If the tournament host Jeev, who trails Sweden’s Joakim Haeggman by a solitary stroke, manages to carve out a win on Sunday, it will mean his first international professional win on Indian soil and a trophy on a fifth international Tour.
Jeev, who turned pro in 1993 after graduating from Abilene Christian University in the US, has won on the Asian Tour (previously the Asian PGA), the DP World Tour (now called the European Tour), the Japan Golf Tour and the Korean Tour.
A win on the Legends Tour will make him the first Indian to achieve the feat. And what can be better than having his teenaged son, Harjai Milkha Singh, alongside at the event as a special invitee.
Jeev has won six times in Asia, four times on the DP World Tour and four times on the Japan Tour. He has also won once each on the Korea, Thailand and Malaysia PGA Tours.
A title on Sunday will also mean his first success in an international pro event in India. He has twice won on the domestic tour as a pro – at the Northern Indian Open in 1994 and the Mahindra BPGC Open in 1995.
In his long career, Jeev has had about 15 runner-up finishes in international events, but the closest was second place at the Hero Honda Masters in 1998 where the winner was Jyoti Randhawa.
Jeev and Randhawa have for years competed against each on golf courses in Asia, Japan and Europe and the two will now be in the final group at the inaugural HSBC India Legends Championships at Jaypee Greens Golf Course alongside event leader Joakim Haeggman of Sweden.
