Tiger Woods has announced Lance Bennett as his new caddie for The Genesis Invitational.

Lance Bennett, the latest addition to Tiger Woods’ team as his caddie, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. Bennett steps into the spotlight following Woods’ amicable split with longtime caddie Joe LaCava, who recently began working with Patrick Cantlay.

With Tiger Woods needing a seasoned professional to guide him through tournaments like the Genesis Invitational, Bennett emerged as the ideal candidate. Having caddied on the PGA Tour since 2003, Bennett boasts an impressive resume, including extensive stints with top players such as Matt Kuchar, Im Sung-jae, and Davis Riley, along with notable appearances on the LPGA Tour.

During Woods’ pre-tournament press conference, he spoke highly of Bennett, emphasizing their shared understanding of the game and approach to reading putts. Woods expressed confidence in their partnership, highlighting Bennett’s down-to-earth demeanor and loyalty, qualities that have resonated with Woods over the years.

The genesis of Woods and Bennett’s relationship traces back to the 2013 Presidents Cup, where Bennett caddied for Kuchar, fostering a connection that laid the groundwork for their collaboration.

Bennett’s current full-time commitment to Adrien Dumont de Chassart, the reigning Korn Ferry Tour Rookie of the Year, opened the door for him to join Woods at the Genesis Invitational. While it remains uncertain whether Bennett will continue caddying for Woods beyond this event, his presence adds intrigue to Woods’ return to competitive golf, marking his first official PGA Tour event since the 2023 Masters.

Tiger Woods to go ahead with Lance Bennett after Joe LaCava

After parting ways with longtime caddie Joe LaCava, Tiger Woods has announced Lance Bennett as his new caddie for The Genesis Invitational at The Riviera Country Club.

The decision to enlist Bennett came after Woods and LaCava mutually agreed to go separate ways, allowing LaCava to pursue a more consistent work schedule. At the Hero World Challenge last December, Woods had his bag carried by Rob McNamara, a close friend, and business associate. However, for the Genesis Invitational, Woods sought a seasoned professional to guide him through the tournament.

Tiger Woods Caddie History

Mike ‘Fluff’ Cowan was Woods’ first caddie as a professional golfer when he turned pro in 1996 at the age of 20. Together, they secured seven PGA Tour victories, including the prestigious 1997 Masters Tournament, where Woods made history by becoming the youngest player to win the green jacket and ascend to the World No. 1 spot.

In 1999, Woods started a legendary partnership with Steve Williams, a collaboration that yielded an impressive 63 PGA Tour wins and 13 major tournament victories, including three US Open triumphs. Williams’ influence on Woods’ game extended beyond carrying the bag, as he played a pivotal role in strategic decisions and crucial shots. Their partnership lasted for 12 years until 2011 when Woods parted ways with Williams.

Amidst his tenure with Williams, Woods enlisted the services of Bryon Bell, a longtime friend who occasionally filled in as his caddie. Notably, Woods and Bell teamed up to secure victory at the 1999 Buick Invitational, adding another chapter to Woods’ remarkable career.

Since 2011, Joe LaCava has been Woods’ steadfast caddie, contributing to 11 PGA Tour titles and notably guiding Woods to victory at the 2019 Masters, a historic triumph that marked Woods’ 82nd PGA Tour win, tying him for the all-time record. LaCava’s tenure with Woods has spanned nearly 12 years, characterized by camaraderie, mutual respect, and shared success on the golf course.

Now, as Woods starts the next phase of his career, he welcomes Lance Bennett as his newest caddie.
