Clark won the Wells Fargo Championship a year ago and has won the U.S. Open and Pebble Beach.
The 2023 Wells Fargo Championship was held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC. The purse for the Wells Fargo Championship 2023 was $20 million. $3.6 million was awarded to the winner, followed by the runner-up. The PGA Tour is known to be a good event to become a first-time winner in the reputed events.
Clearly, this is what drove Wyndham Clark to be a part of history in 2023. The native from Colorado gave up a shot in the final round, 68. This led him to take over Xander Schauffele by four shots, eventually leading to the prize.
Clark’s round started with a bogey on the par-5 1st but he held steady throughout. He made key birdies and a 3-under 33 on the back nine to finish with a 19 under, marking the lowest score at the Wells Fargo Championship since 2015, when Rory McIlroy set a tournament record at 21 under. Clark believes this is a testament to his increased mental toughness.
