Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 Updated Schedule: Day 6
India will clash with Wales in Pool D.
The FIH Hockey World Cup 2023 was missing a last-minute thriller and dramatic 2-2 tie between the two-time world champions Germany and the current winners Belgium delivered just that. After Belgium stole the ball, Cedric Charlier flicked it, scoring from an angle to hit the goalkeeper's right lower corner and giving Belgium the lead. As Stadler's right leg misses the ball, Niklas Wellen scored a goal to restore parity for Germany. Germany, in turn, took the lead thanks to a goal from Tom Grambusch, but with five minutes remaining on the clock, Victor Wegnez scored, and the game ended in a draw.
Korea came back from a goal down to win the Asian derby after Japan had taken an early lead thanks to a brace from Lee Jungjun. Despite the absence of goals in the second half, the game was nonetheless exciting. In the end, Japan gave it their all and earned three penalty corners, but they were unable to score, and the Korea defence persevered to earn all three points.
Day 6 preview
Day 6 of the Hockey World Cup 2023 is going to be an action-packed day as there will be 4 matches, two from Group C and two from Group D. At Bhubaneshwar's Kalinga Stadium on Thursday, the India men's hockey team, captained by Harmanpreet Singh, will square off against Wales. On the same day, England and Spain will face each other in a different Pool D game. The team that wins the pool after these two games will automatically advance to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Hockey World Cup. The Blues have fared admirably thus far in the competition, keeping a spotless record in back-to-back games in Pool D but their score, along with the scoreline of the other game in the pool will decide whether the hosts will qualify directly to the quarterfinals or would they have to play in the crossover matches.
