The Men In Blue will take on the South Americans in two back-to-back games on the weekend in the FIH Pro League.
India and Argentina will clash on Saturday and Sunday in the FIH Pro League. The Men in Blue have won four of their last six games and have been the most attacking team in the tournament, scoring 35 goals. On the other hand, Argentina are in the middle of the table with nine points. While the Indians will look to go top of the table, the formidable South Americans will look to climb it.
So, before they go head-to-head against Argentina, Indian captain Amit Rohidas and vice-captain Mandeep Singh sat down with the media. The duo spoke on different topics before the important games. Here are the excerpts.
On Harmanpreet being difference-maker between the two sides
Harmanpreet Singh has been on fire in this FIH Pro League .The drag-flick specialist and has so far amassed 10 goals and is currently the leading scorer in the competition. Speaking on his influence in the team, the newly-appointed Indian captain Amit Rohidas said, "Of course, he (Harmanpreet) will be a key player for us. Harman, Surendar (Kumar), I have been been holding up the defence for quite a while, so we have that understanding."
"Moreover, we all have played so many matches in the Indian colours. We are hopeful that we will do very well against Argentina. Our team has re-evaluated itself after the loss ( against Spain) and we are only going to perform better," added the confident captain.
On how team will bounce back from loss in last game
The Indian team were on a winning run in their last few games when it suddenly got halted against a much weaker team in Spain. Though the Indians won their first match against the Spaniards (5-4), they lost the next game.
"Winning and losing is a part of life. They (Argentina) are a good side no doubt, but we have played against them before. We are training hard and there is a lot of self-belief among the boys. We are playing on our home ground and that we will use to our advantage. I am sure that we will produce a great result," said vice-captain Manpreet reflecting on their past performances.
On how they plan to stop Argentina's winning run
Argentina have been on a winning streak, having defeated England in back-to-back games. So, the Indians have quite a task on their hands in the next game. The team have to plan and prepare accordingly and that is what captain Amit Rohidas also stressed on.
"We are watching a lot of tapes of their play to get reads on them. We are also using this information to train on the outfield accordingly. In addition to that, we are speaking with our seniors on the team, doing group sessions and one-on-one sessions. I am sure that will yield good results for us and we will be successful," concluded Amit Rohidas.
