Men’s Asia Cup 2022: India's schedule, fixtures & highlights

The top three teams will qualify for the 2023 FIH World Cup.
The Men’s Asia Cup 2022 hockey tournament will get going in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta from 23 May 2022. The quadrennial event will feature top continental teams. Competition will be intense, with the top three teams sealing their place in the 2023 FIH World Cup. India have already assured their place for the 2023 World Cup as host.
Eight teams are taking part in the Men's Asia Cup 2022. The teams are split into two groups. This will be followed by a second round and classification fixtures. Pool A has India, Pakistan, Japan and Indonesia. Pool B comprises Malaysia, South Korea, Oman and Bangladesh.
India are the defending champions and will kickstart their campaign against archrivals Pakistan. Many of the top Indian players are giving the tournament a miss, giving the next crop a chance to make their mark.
The Men in Blue will look to finish on the podium and provide positive momentum to their campaign for the 2023 FIH World Cup. Here are more details of the Men’s Asia Cup 2022:
India Squad
Sardar Singh will be the coach of the Indian team with plenty of fresh faces. It is a side that features fringe players and will be led by Birendra Lakra.

Defenders: Nilam Sanjeep Xess, Yashdeep Siwach, Abhishek Lakra, Birendra Lakra (C), Manjeet, Dipsan Tirkey
Midfielders: Vishnukant Singh, Raj Kumar Pal, Mareeswaren Sakthivel, Sheshe Gowda BM, Simranjeet Singh
Forwards: Pawan Rajbhar, Abharan Sudev, SV Sunil (Vice-Captain), Uttam Singh, S Karthi

India begin their Asia Cup campaign against rivals Pakistan on 23 May. The Men in Blue will play Japan and Indonesia in the other fixtures in Pool A.
