The Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 will be getting underway soon as six teams will contest for the title. The Indian women’s hockey team are the defending champions and will be aiming to win their third title at the event. Last season, the women in blue had defeated Japan in the final of the tournament.

The Indian squad will be led by Salima Tete as Navneet Kaur is the vice-captain. The18-member team will hope to begin their campaign on a positive note in the newly developed Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar. Defender Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam and mid-fielder Beauty Dungdung are back on the team after recovering from injuries.

This time there will be strong contention from China as the team secured silver in the Paris Olympics 2024. They are yet to win a title in the event and will put up a tough fight against India for the trophy. China had reached the finals in 2011, 2016 but lost to South Korea and India respectively.

South Korea are seeking to become the first team to win four titles in the history of the event. They had won the inaugural edition in 2010 and successfully defended the title in the next edition. Joining them will be Malaysia and Thailand as both nations are yet to reach the summit clash in the event.

Thailand is yet to register a podium finish while Malaysia was placed third in 2013. It will be the second successive edition to field six teams. Japan and South Korea will clash in the opening match of the event while India will start against Malaysia. Hosts India will have the home turf advantage just like last year.

The Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024 will begin from November 11 and go on till 20. Matches will be held at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar, India.
