Women's FIH Pro League 2023-24: Top 10 players with most goals
Yibbi Jansen leads the scoring chart and has already hit double digits in goals.
The Women’s FIH Pro League features the top nine hockey teams from around the world. Played in a round-robin format with home and away matches, the Women’s FIH Pro League is held every year and is usually played between December to June. The Women’s FIH Pro League 2023-24 commenced on December 6, 2023, and will run until June 29, 2024.
The league has undergone several changes since being founded in 2017. So far only four editions of the Women’s FIH Pro League has been held with Netherlands emerging champions in three of those seasons, including the first two. The current format, which has been in place since 2022, of the league is played as mini tournaments where a group of teams gather in a particular venue and play two matches against each other.
The team that finishes at the bottom at the end of the league is relegated to the FIH Hockey Nations Cup while the winner of that tournament earns promotion to the FIH Pro League.
The Indian leg of the tournament has already seen completion, with matches taking place in two locations – Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. The overall standings depict a mix of dominant performances, fierce competition and the inevitable consequences of relegation. The upcoming legs of the FIH Pro League will be held in Antwerp, Belgium, in May, followed by the London leg in June.
In the current season, Belgium has already been relegated. They are currently at the bottom of the standings with no points to their name.
The Women’s FIH Pro League 2023-24 is set to serve as a preparatory competition for nations heading to the Paris Olympics 2024, which will be held from July 26. However, the Indian women’s hockey team among others have failed to qualify for the Olympics.
