Indian Sports Calendar June 2024: Major events to look forward to in fourth week

The Athletics Olympic qualifying events will end this week.

A little less than a month remains for the Paris Olympics 2024 and the preparatory as well qualifying events in the Indian sports calendar are gradually coming to an end. This week the badminton caravan moves to the USA. There are also squash, table tennis and tennis events to look forward to this week. Young Indian prodigy Anahat Singh will be in action this week.

With the athletics qualification set to end this week, this presents the last opportunity for several Indian athletes to qualify for the Paris Olympics via the world rankings route or to breach the Olympic qualification mark.

Meanwhile, the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has entered the Super 8 stage, which will be followed by the semis and the final eventually this Saturday. The Indian men’s cricket team are in among the favourites to reach the semifinals.

Major events to watch in June fourth week of Indian Sports Calendar

Athletics

The last week of athletics qualification is underway, and this is the last chance for the athletes to qualify for Paris Olympics 2024 either via meeting the Olympic qualifying standard time or the world rankings route.

  • June 27-30: Inter State Senior Athletics Championships

Badminton

The badminton action will shift to Pan America where US and Canada Open will take place in consecutive weeks. The America leg of the BWF World Tour will start with the US Open (Super 300) this week. From the Indian perspective Priyanshu Rajawat, Aayush Shetty and other youngsters are the ones to look out for.

  • June 25-30: US Open Super 300
  • June 28-2 July: Asian Junior Championships 2024, Indonesia

Cricket

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 enters the knockout stages with the ‘Super 8’ round already started. India have almost sealed their place in the semis with wins against Afghanistan and Bangladesh respectivey. They will face Australia in their last match of Super 8 stage.

Meanwhile, the Indian women’s team continues with ODI series against South Africa women. The Indian women in Blue are also set to host the Protea women in a one-off Test match followed by a three-match T20I series in Chennai.

Deaf Sports

The Indian deaf team will be in action in team at the World Championships.

  • June 21-30: World Deaf Volleyball Championship, Japan
  • June 25-6 July: Deaf World Chess Championships, Serbia

Fencing

The Fencing Asian Championships will take place this week. Indian fencers will look to do well here. The focus will be on Bhavani Devi to improve her colour of medal from the last edition.

  • June 22-27: Asian Fencing Championship (Ongoing)

Golf

A couple of golf tournaments are taking place this week. Indian golfers will look to do well in the tournaments.

  • June 27-30: Dow Championships, USA
  • June 27-30: Italian Open
  • June 28-30: Swiss Ladies Open

Para Sports

The Indian Para Archers will be in action. The eyes will be on Sheetal Devi. Even Indian powerlifters will be in action.

  • June 22-30: Para Archery World Ranking Tournament
  • June 20-26: Para Powerlifting World Cup

Squash

The Indian young prodigy Anahat Singh will participate in the Dynam Cup SQ-Cube Open 2024. There are also other players who will participate in the PSA challenger tour

  • June 26-30: PSNS President’s Trophy 2024
  • June 26-30: Dynam Cup SQ-Cube Open 2024
  • June 26-30: Trident Homes South Island Open 2024

Table Tennis

After Lagos Contender the focus shifts to Tunis. Several Indian paddlers are playing in this event, including Paris bound Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai, Manav Thakkar, Manika Batra and Archana Kamath.

  • June 24-30: WTT Contender Tunis 2024

Tennis

Sriram Balaji and Yuki Bhambri will be in action in the ATP 250 event in men’s doubles with their respective partners.

  • June 24-30: ATP 250 Eastbourne International

Wrestling

The U-17 and U-23 Asian Championships will continue this week. India has done well in this event and will look to repeat their past performance.

  • June 22-30: Asian U17 and U23 Championships (Ongoing)
