Sports Calendar 2025: Major sports events that India will host

Kho Kho World Cup will be the first major sports event that will be played in India in 2025.

India is slated to host many major sports events, from badminton to cricket, in 2025. The first significant event that will take place in the country will be the Kho Kho World Cup, scheduled in Delhi, from January 13 to 19. The Indian team will face off against archrivals Pakistan in the opening match.

Following this, the BWF India Open (Super 750) will take place at the KD Jadhav indoor hall. In addition to the Super 750 tournament, India will also host three more tournaments, including a Super 300 and two Super 100 tournaments, scheduled for November and December.

In February, India will host several hockey Pro League matches. The FIH Pro League will act as the qualifier for the 2026 Men’s Hockey World Cup. The top-ranked team who haven’t still qualified for the World Cup will get the qualification spot. With the Netherlands, Belgium and Australia already qualified, India will look to use this opportunity to book their berth.

Teams from Spain, Netherlands, England, and Ireland in the men’s section, along with women’s teams from England, Netherlands, Spain, and Germany, are scheduled to travel to India. The tournament will be held in Bhubaneswar.

India will also host the Junior Hockey Men’s World Cup in December. While the venue is yet to be ascertained, there will be 24 teams that will participate in the tournament. Another major Junior tournament that India will host is the BWF Junior World Championships in Guwahati this October.

In shooting, India have been named hosts for the Junior Shooting World Cup—once again the exact date and venue are yet to be decided.

There is also the ICC Women’s World Cup at home in August and September. The tournament will feature eight teams, and India will eye a better performance than the T20 World Cup. Another major cricket tournament that India will host is the Asia Cup in October where six teams along with India will participate.

In athletics, India will host the World Para Athletics Championships at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi. The championships will take place in September and October. India is also set to host the first-ever Continental Tour bronze meet on August 10, Bhubaneswar. The meet will help Indian athletes to get exposure.

India, who recently switched to World Boxing from AIBA, will host the World Boxing Cup finals in November. It will take place in Delhi.
