UP Yoddhas: Coach Jasveer Singh, captain Nitesh, and Pardeep Narwal

On Pardeep’s record-breaking achievement

With six raid points on the night in PKL 9, Pardeep Narwal has sealed himself in the upper echelons of the sport. Coach Jasveer and captain Nitesh showered praise on Pardeep Narwal. Jasveer said, “1400 raid points is a massive achievement, but I think he will cross 1500 this season.” (Pardeep interjects by saying, “This season I will cross 1600 sir.”)

“The rate at which he is going, he will get there. Everyone at UP Yoddhas congratulates Pardeep for this achievement.”

Nitesh said, “Pardeep has been a star for UP Yoddhas and this feat of 1400 PKL raid points is no mean feat.”

Pardeep Narwal said, “I did not even expect to have these many points in the PKL. I thought I will end up as the second or third-best raider in the league. I used to watch Rahul Chaudhari play and thought if he can rack up the points then why can’t I? So I trained with the goal of becoming the best and became successful. The first thing in my career was to play in the Pro Kabaddi league and I did not expect to be at this level. My next goal is to cross 1600 this season.”

A defensive performance to be proud of

UP Yoddhas halted the young and untested Tamil Thalaivas raiding unit, posting 19 tackle points in total. Everyone contributed with at least a point. Nitesh said, “In the previous match we made a lot of defensive errors so coach Sahab did a lot of video analysis and we did not repeat those mistakes. Their raiders are doing well but we planned very well.”

Tamil Thalaivas: Coach J Udaya Kumar and Sagar

How do you assess back-to-back losses?

Tamil Thalaivas are floundering without Pawan Sehrawat’s presence on the mat. The Thalaivas captain is still in rehabilitation following a knee injury, and being fit for the Asian Games is his focus. Coach Udaya Kumar said, “Today none of our raiders were successful. They just returned from injury. We are not able to get our opponents all-out and this puts pressure on the defence.”

Sagar’s captaincy task

Right corner Sagar has filled in as the captain in Pawan’s absence in PKL 9. He talked about his plans for the UP raiders, “Every raider is different in the way he approaches the game. We have to keep multiple strategies and this is what we train.”

On Pardeep Narwal’s form

J Udaya Kumar commented positively on Pardeep’s return to form and said, “ Pardeep’s comeback is very good news for the league and for the sport of Kabaddi. It is happy news for everyone. Coming back from a form dip is never easy. The amount of dedication they have for Kabaddi is inspirational and any player should learn from Pardeep on how to make a comeback.”

UP Yoddhas and Tamil Thalaivas both next feature in the Pune leg. Thalaivas play the in-form Jaipur Pink Panthers on Friday, while UP face the reinvigorated Patna Pirates.
