PKL 9: Patna Pirates, Jaipur Pink Panthers win in high-scoring games

Arjun Deshwal was the star of the day as he scored 15 points.

An inspired and captivating performance by two teams that left everything on the mat saw the Jaipur Pink Panthers triumph over U Mumba 42-39 at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi in Pune on Monday. Arjun Deshwal's 15 raid points and Ankush's 5 tackle points helped them register a hard-fought victory. In the other game of the PKL 9, Patna Pirates defeated Haryana Steelers 41-32.

A riotous first half kicked off among a flurry of points, both teams exchanging them constantly. Arjun Deshwal's SUPER RAID on Surinder Singh, Rinku and Jai Bhagwan in the opening minutes put Mumba under pressure. Soon enough the Pink Panthers had inflicted the first ALL OUT to take a 9-1 lead.

From there U Mumba built their way back into the game. A SUPER RAID by Mumba's Heidarali Ekrami on Ankush, Rahul Chaudhari, Sahul Kumar drew them closer and then a few minutes from halftime, they got their first ALL OUT to draw level at 17-17. A frenzied last minute saw the teams trade points as the Pink Panthers went into the break leading 20-19.

In the second half Mumba's defenders upped the game and slowly rushed into a massive lead. With another all out looming, the Pink Panthers defenders Ankush and Lucky Sharma thought they had got themselves a super tackle only for Ashish to slip out and inflict another ALL OUT as Mumba took a 27-22 lead. 

The game though was far from over. Jaipur inflicted another ALL OUT to retake the lead 34-33 and with five minutes remaining, the game had everyone on edge. In the end, despite U Mumba's late surge the Pink Panthers kept moving ahead and eventually walked off the mat as winners of the match.

PKL 9 Match 2: Patna Pirates 41-32 Haryana Steelers

Sachin and Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh starred for Patna Pirates on Monday as they picked up a big 41-32 win over Haryana Steelers in vivo Pro Kabaddi League Season 9 at the Shree Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune. While the in-form Pirates' raider Sachin earned 13 points, the Iranian defender Chiyaneh earned 6 points as they helped their team pick up the win, despite strong showing from Manjeet, who earned 10 points for Steelers.

Sachin began the match, earning a raid point for Patna Pirates. But Manjeet equalised straightaway with a bonus point with his first raid. Minutes later, Mohit tackled Sachin to pin him down and give Haryana Steelers the lead. But the tables turned the other way round as Sunil took down Meetu with a fierce tackle and Pirates made a comeback to inch ahead.

Meetu began Haryana's resurgence as he picked up a point on do-or-die raid. Minutes later, Mohammad Mahalli caught hold of Sachin, and Monu Hooda grabbed Anuj Kumar with a strong backhold as Steelers levelled the scoreline. But Sachin earned a SUPER RAID to give back to Pirates and they went to halftime with a 15-10 lead.

The second half began with Patna Pirates inflicted an ALL OUT on Haryana Steelers as they extended their lead to 19-12, putting pressure on the opposition. Neeraj Kumar earned back-to-back tackle points, while Sachin continued to earn raid points for his team as Pirates took complete control of the proceedings. With seven minutes, Patna inflicted the second ALL OUT on the opposition to extend their lead by 15 points.

But Haryana Steelers showcased they will not go down without a fight as Vinay earned a massive three-point super raid to begin a comeback. A couple of minutes later Manjeet earned a two-point super raid as Steelers inflicted an all out of their own to reduce the gap to six points. Sachin brought his team back into control, earning a three-point super raid of his own. At the stroke of full time, Patna inflicted another ALL OUT as they won the match 41-32.
