Mohit Chhillar: A look at Kabaddi legend's major achievements, stats and titles
The defender is regarded as the master of the super tackle.
Mohit Chhillar has been one of India's best defenders in the past decade operating from the right-corner position. The star defender started playing kabaddi at a young age and was part of the School Games Federation of India. Even though his father is a former kabaddi player, it was his uncle who introduced him to the game. Mohit Chhillar hails from Haryana, which has produced many kabaddi players (Pardeep Narwal, Anup Kumar etc) who have gone on to represent the national side.
The defender was part of a club in his village in Nizampur and soon made his mark in the junior and the senior nationals. Like many kabaddi players, Mohit Chhillar became one of the most popular names after the inaugural Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season. U Mumba was successful in bringing Mohit to the squad and the defender scored 35 tackle points, with five super tackles and two high 5s. U Mumba finished the season as runner-up losing to Jaipur Pink Panthers.
Mohit Chhillar was part of U Mumba for three successive seasons and formed a formidable combination with Surender Nada from the left flank. U Mumba, after finishing as runner-up in the inaugural season, went one step further to clinch the title in PKL season 2. The left corner defender finished the season with 42 tackle points (three super tackles and three high 5s).
He was the costliest bid in the PKL season 4 player auctions and was brought by Bengaluru Bulls for a whopping 53 lakhs. The versatile defender didn't disappoint and finished the campaign with 47 tackle points. He had a tackle strike rate of 54.02 per cent (three super tackles and four high 5s). He shifted to Haryana Steelers ahead of PKL season 5 and was the best-performing defender from the franchise scoring 39 tackle points.
For the third successive season, he shifted bases and ahead of PKL season 6 joined Jaipur Pink Panthers and scored 31 tackle points. For one last time in the PKL, Mohit represented Tamil Thalaivas and finished the season scoring 37 tackle points. Tamil Thalaivas had a poor outing in PKL season 7, finishing in the last spot.
