Who is Patna Pirates' newly appointed head coach Narender Kumar Redhu?
The team will look to bounce back this season under new leadership.
Three-time Pro Kabaddi League champions Patna Pirates have appointed Narender Kumar Redhu as their new head coach replacing Ravi Shetty. Patna Pirates informed the change in coach on their social media handle “Captain of the Ship is now stronger than ever before. Hearty Congratulations to our new Head Coach”.
Who is Narender Kumar Redhu?
Narender Kumar Redhu was the head of the Red Army team in the Sri Lanka Sports Exchange Kabaddi Tournament, guiding the team to a gold medal finish. Five years later, Narender guided the Red Army to a gold medal at the Bangladesh Sports Exchange Kabaddi Tournament held in Bhopal, India. Redhu was the assistant coach of the Haryana Steelers in season 6. The northern side finished in the last spot winning six matches from 22 matches overall. He holds a Diploma in Sports Coaching (A Grade) certified by NIS.
What next for Patna Pirates?
Patna Pirates have had multiple coaches in the past who have led the team successfully. Manpreet Singh, Sanjeev Baliyan, and Ram Mehar Singh to name a few have done tremendously well in their respective tenures. Patna Pirates is the most successful franchise in PKL’s history winning the title thrice (hattrick - Seasons 3,4, and 5).
Patna Pirates were pretty close to winning the title in season 8 but couldn't cross the final hurdle. Ravi Shetty was brought in going into season 9 but this time fell short of reaching the playoffs (wins - 8, ties - 3, and losses - 11). Redhu will have his task cut out and this will be his first season as head coach for a PKL club. The official announcement of season 10 has not been announced yet but we expect the league to start in the second part of the year.
All the club’s scouts will be heading to watch the senior national kabaddi championship which is scheduled to be held later this month.
