PKL: Patna Pirates ropes in Anil Chaprana as Assistant coach
The franchise also changed their head coach before the start of the new season.
Patna Pirates have roped in Anil Chaprana as their new assistant coach for the Pro Kabaddi League season 10 - the club announced through their social media handle. Chaprana was the head coach of U Mumba in PKL 9 and previously (season 8) was the offensive coach of the same franchise. He was one of the youngest coaches to lead a PKL side last season. The club mentioned the signing across social media handles and said, “Ahoy, Mateys! We’ve got a new crew member, Our Deputy Coach that will make us remember. That with hard work and strategy combined, we’ll not leave the 4th trophy behind.”
Three-time champions Patna Pirates has been one of the most active clubs having brought in Vinay Kumar Redhu as their head coach followed by Anil Chaprana as his deputy. The franchise came close to lifting the title in season 8 and had a poor run in the following season. The senior national championships are set to begin shortly which will help the management (along with the coaches) to pick the best talents in the auction ahead of PKL 10.
Anil Chaprana couldn’t guide U Mumba to the playoffs last season but unearthed a few good talents. Cover defender Surender Singh was made the captain and rallied the team well in the absence of experience.
Vinay Redhu will lead the coaching unit
The duo of Vinay Kumar Redhu and Anil Chaprana will play a massive role in guiding Patna Pirates to their fourth PKL title. Patna Pirates under Ravi Shetty managed to garner 54 points (wins - 8, losses - 11, and tie - 3) finishing in the tenth spot. The raiding department did not have enough depth with Sachin Kumar and Rohit Gulia doing the bulk of the raiding. Pro Kabaddi League season 10 is likely to be held after the Asian Games. The official announcement regarding the same will be out soon.
