The champion of the seventh season have retained only 4 players for the upcoming season.

In the 9th season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), the performance of Bengal Warriors was notably average. They secured victory in only 8 out of 22 matches in the previous season, suffering defeat in 11 matches and experiencing 3 ties. Their chances for playoffs were hindered due to losing four out of the last five matches. This struggle in performance seems to have influenced the franchise’s decision not to retain most of their players this time around. Senior players like Captain Maninder Singh and other prominent names have been released from the franchise. High-profile players including Girish Ernak, Deepak Hooda, and Surender Nada have been excluded from the team.

When looking at the retained players, Bengal Warriors have made surprising choices across both the Elite Retained Players and Retained Young Players categories. Unexpectedly, they have refrained from retaining players in either category, signifying a substantial shift in strategy. Instead, they have opted to retain only four players within the New Young Players category. This move suggests a lack of confidence in their existing players and a clear inclination to construct an entirely new team.

Here are the retained players of Bengal Warriors for the PKL 10:

New Young Players Category:

  1. Vaibhav Garje – A specialized right-cover player, Vaibhav Garje debuted in the prior season and showcased a commendable performance. He garnered 31 points in 18 matches, including achieving a High 5 and executing a Super Tackle.
  2. Suyog Gechkar – The franchise has chosen to retain young raider Suyog Gechkar. Despite only participating in two matches in the previous season, he secured three points. This choice underscores Bengal Warriors’ intention to nurture his potential in the forthcoming season.
  3. Aar Guhan – Another emerging raider, Aar Guhan, has been retained by the franchise. In the 9th PKL season, he competed in three matches and scored six points, reaffirming the franchise’s belief in his capabilities.
  4. Prashant Kumar – The franchise has also retained young raider Prashant Kumar, who was featured in a single match during the prior season, earning two points.

Bengal Warriors find themselves needing to reconstruct their team from the ground up and approach the new season with a fresh outlook. The auction provides an opportunity for them to place new bids and potentially bring back players, including Captain Maninder Singh. The franchise also has the option to utilize the FBM card to retain players. Bengal Warriors must strategically reformulate their team for the upcoming season.
