The three-time champions made significant changes to their squad.

The Patna Pirates are the most successful team in PKL history, having won the championship three times. However, their recent performance has been inconsistent. After three consecutive championships, they faced a defeat in the 8th season's finals.

In the 9th season, their performance was disappointing, with only 8 wins out of 22 matches, along with 11 losses and three ties. This was unexpected given the team's usual spirit and enthusiasm. As a result, Patna Pirates significantly changed their team for the upcoming 10th PKL season.

They not only revamped their coaching staff but also released several star players. One surprising move was letting go of Mohammadreza Shadlu, the team's top defender for the past two seasons. Even during the auctions, Patna didn't express a desire to reacquire him, and they didn't use the 'FBM card.' However, they did have confidence in some players and retained them before the auction.

Here's a closer look at the players the Patna Pirates retained and acquired during the auctions:

Elite Retained Players:

  1. Sachin Tanwar: The three-time champion Patna retained star raider Sachin, who has been with the team for several seasons. Sachin played a vital role in reaching the 8th season's finals and was the top raider during the 9th season, scoring 176 points in 20 matches. He's known for stepping up when the team needs it most.
  2. Neeraj Kumar: Neeraj Kumar, a right-cover player and Patna's former captain, was also retained. Despite a relatively poor performance last season, his experience and leadership played a role in the team's decision.

Retained Young Players:

  1. Manish Dhull: Patna retained Manish Dhull, an essential player in their defense, despite his underwhelming performance in the previous season.

New Young Players:

Patna retained four promising young players: T Yuvraj, Navin Sharma, Ranjit Nayak, and Anuj Kumar, who have impressed with their talent and skills over the past few seasons.

In the PKL 10 auctions, Patna Pirates acquired the following players:

  1. Manjeet Dahiya
  2. Zheng Wei Chen
  3. Daniel Odhiambo
  4. Rohit
  5. Sajin Chandrasekhar
  6. Krishna
  7. Ankit Deepak Kumar
  8. Mahendra Choudhary
