Exclusive: My aim is to win best defender award in PKL 10 says Shubham Shinde

The young defender shared insights into the team’s strategy for the upcoming season.

Bengal Warriors are gearing up for another season in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) under the leadership of Maninder Singh. The team’s performance in the last season was subpar, securing only 8 victories out of 22 matches, facing defeat in 11 matches, and drawing in 3. Failing to qualify for the playoffs due to four defeats in the last five matches, Bengal Warriors are determined to clinch the title this time with a well-prepared team.

High expectations are set for Shubham Shinde in defense, given his stellar performance in the previous season. Shubham Shinde, expressing confidence, shared his thoughts in an exclusive conversation with Khel Now ahead of the new season.

No pressure on me

Shubham Shinde, having played for Bengal Warriors last season and was retained in the team, acknowledges the expectations but insists he feels no pressure. He stated, “There is no pressure on me to replicate the performance from last season just because I have been selected again. Our current practice sessions are going well, and I am not feeling any pressure.”

Team strategy for the upcoming season

According to Shubham Shinde, the Bengal Warriors’ defense faced challenges during the 9th season, prompting a focus on overcoming those shortcomings this time. Describing their preparations, he mentioned, “Our primary goal is to qualify for the playoffs. The team this time is excellent, comprising new young talents alongside experienced players. I am confident that the team will perform exceptionally well. Last season, our defense struggled a bit, so this time, we are emphasizing it a lot.”

Aim to win the Best Defender award

Shubham Shinde has set a significant goal for the 10th PKL season – to win the Best Defender Award. He expressed, “My target this time is to win the Best Defender Award. I aim to break records, and my dream is to secure the team title this season. My coordination with Nitin Rawal is excellent this time.”

Experience of Playing under Kashinath’s Coaching

For the 10th season, Bengal Warriors have enlisted Kashinath Bhaskaran as their coach. Shubham Shinde praised the coaching experience under Kashinath, stating, “It feels great to play under his coaching. As an Asian Games gold medalist, he is preparing us thoroughly and imparting valuable skills.”

Playing under the Captaincy of Maninder Singh

Shubham Shinde lauded the captaincy of Maninder Singh, expressing enjoyment in playing under his leadership. He shared, “I really enjoy playing under the captaincy of Maninder Singh. He is my idol, giving me complete freedom to play as I wish.”
