The Warriors returned to winning ways with a dominating display.

Bengal Warriors secured a first victory in their home leg of the Pro Kabaddi League season 10 (PKL 10) with a 55-35 win over the bottom-feeders Telugu Titans at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Saturday. Nitin Kumar (13) was the best performer on the night for the Warriors while Milad Jabbari scored nine points for the Titans as none of their players secured double digits in terms of points scored.

It was a 17th defeat of the PKL 10 for the Telugu Titans which simply cannot find a way to win a game. As for the Bengal Warriors, emerging as victorious takes them to 49 points in the league standings after what was only their eighth win from 19 outings in the ongoing season.

Due to the nature of the result, the mood was different in both camps in the post-match press conference with the media personnel. Here are excerpts from the conversation:

A good result – Kasinatha Baskaran

Kasinatha Baskaran, head coach of the Bengal Warriors, expects his team to carry the momentum into the forthcoming matches. He said, “It is a good result for the team and the players. We have two more matches remaining at home and will aim to win them as well.”

Maninder Singh’s reaction to the win

Maninder Singh, the skipper of Bengal Warriors, talked about his team’s learnings from the previous defeat playing an important part in winning against the Titans. He said, “It feels good to win. Our previous game was also going well until we made some mistakes, especially in our tackling. So today, the players fine-tuned that part of their game which is the reason why we have won.”

Dr Srinivas Reddy on the performance

Speaking on how the Telugu Titans performed, Dr. Srinivas Reddy said, “There were chances to make a comeback in the game. A few tackles were mistimed and we gave away some good points. That was the point when the momentum shifted towards Bengal Warriors but overall, the team played well today.”

Pawan Sehrawat’s take on the recent performances

Pawan Sehrawat, the star of Pro Kabaddi League, has been underperforming this season and it is one of the major reasons why the Telugu Titans have had a forgettable campaign. Expressing his opinion on the performances of late, he said, “Every player wants to do better and my goal is to improve my and my team’s performance. If I play well, it improves the team’s morale but if I do not perform, then the team’s morale goes down. So, going ahead, we will try to do better.”
