UP Yoddhas coach Jasveer Singh reveals reason for team's disappointing performance in PKL 10

A dominating performance from the Steelers saw them record an impressive win against the Yoddhas.
Haryana Steelers made short work of U.P. Yoddhas in their recent Pro Kabaddi League season 10 (PKL 10) clash on Friday, 9 February 2024, at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. They secured an impressive 50-34 win and with this victory, the Steelers have accumulated 60 points in the standings and boosted their chances of making it into the playoffs.
Shivam Patare and Vinay scored in double digits for the Steelers thanks to their excellent raiding while Mahipal was the sole player from the UP Yoddhas who got a Super 10. The fans of the Haryana Steelers were overjoyed to see their team record a dominating win and get one step closer to their seasonal objective of securing a playoff spot.
Expectedly, both camps had contrasting emotions during the post-match press conference. Here is a look at the excerpts from the conversation with the media:
The team is enjoying a good spell of confidence – Manpreet Singh
Speaking about the importance of the result, head coach Manpreet Singh said, “It is a good thing for a team to secure a win like we have before playing in the home leg. We have reached the 60-point mark with four matches remaining so it is a good result to approach the home leg with a win. The team is enjoying a good spell of confidence at the moment.”

Need to win two out of the four upcoming matches – Manpreet Singh
For his message to the squad ahead of a crucial phase in the PKL 10 season, Singh opined, “The message is simple enough, we need to win at least two out of the four upcoming matches. We will try to win all of the home matches but it is rare in kabaddi to do it. However, we will try to plan according to the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents.”
Jasveer Singh on the disappointing result
U.P. Yoddhas’s head coach, Jasveer Singh talked about his squad being full of fresh faces in the raiding department, as one of the reasons for the loss. He said, “The team has a lot of new raiders who could not secure points for us and the defence did not perform as it has been over the last few matches, which is why the result did not go our way.”
On his expectations from the young players
Speaking about the young players and their potential, Jasveer Singh said, “We had a lot of expectations from the young players who have been performing well in practice. There is Shivam Chaudhary, the left raider, who did well and Hitesh, who plays in the right corner did well. There were high expectations from them but they could not perform up to the levels expected. Gagan Gowda is still doing well and we have high hopes for him.
