It was a sensational match between two teams determined to finish on a strong note.
U Mumba and the Telugu Titans played a memorable Pro Kabaddi League match that ended in a 45-45 tie in PKL 10 at the Tau Devilal Indoor Stadium in Panchkula on 20 February 2024. There was no separating the sides after a grueling encounter that had the spectators on the edge of their seats until the final minute. It was a brilliant way to end the campaign which was otherwise disappointing for both outfits as they missed the bus for the season 10 playoffs.
Pawan Sehrawat, the skipper of the Telugu Titans, led from the front and notched 14 points whereas U Mumba’s Amirmohammad Zafardanesh collected 11 points, helping his side avoid defeat. Both teams reflected on the game and weighed the ups and downs while speaking with the media in the post-match press conference.
Here are the excerpts from the interaction with representatives of both the U Mumba and the Telugu Titans:
Summarising the season
Pawan Sehrawat cited multiple factors contributing to the team’s poor season. He said, “There are plenty of things that contributed to the team’s poor performance in the season, nobody had a positive campaign including the coach because the players did not execute the tactics properly on the mat. Some young players did not replicate their training performances in the matches and let the situation get the better of them. It takes at least two or three seasons for new players to find their feet in a new franchise and form a strong bond with the coach.”

Thankful for the fans
The skipper also thanked the fans and expressed gratitude for their continued support. He said, “The fans’ support has always been there, even when we were up against a strong team like the Puneri Paltan. There is no other fanbase like the one we have, they are outstanding and I have never seen such support anywhere else despite the results.”
The aim was to make an impact – Shivansh Thakur
Sharing his thoughts after the defeat, Shivansh Thakur, the skipper of the U Mumba said, “Our main focus was to give new players a chance to prove themselves. The aim was to make an impact in the last game of the campaign but it was not meant to be. We did not plan accordingly in the final stages of the match which was a grave mistake.”
Need to introspect
The head coach, Gholamreza Mazandarani, discussed needing to work on the mistakes before the new season. He said, “We should check what went wrong in the practice sessions, in our planning. Also, in a young team, becoming overconfident after a couple of wins is an issue that can harm the side in the long run. The team also made plenty of mistakes which can change everything.”
