PKL 10: Patna Pirates players dominate 'Team of the Patna leg'
Patna have jumped up in the points table by performing brilliantly in the home leg.
The Patna leg of season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 10) proved to be one of the thrilling phases of the league as it witnessed three tied games at Pataliputra Indoor Stadium. The home team made use of their home support to score 16 points from four games to move to fourth in the points table. While the league has moved into the next leg, let’s appreciate the best players who made it to the Team of the Patna Leg.
PKL 10: Team of the Patna leg
Sandeep Kumar (Patna Pirates)
Patna’s offensive lineup was led by Sachin but they were lacking a consistent secondary Raider with Manjeet and Sudhakar haven’t sealed their place. This opened up a chance for Sandeep Kumar who seemed to have grabbed with both hands as he scored 14 points against Bengaluru Bulls in the absence of Sachin Tanwar. With just four games played, Sandeep Kumar shocked everyone by earning 31 points and making his debut in the Team of the Week.
Guman Singh (U Mumba)
U Mumba slipped down further in the points table with two defeats but one man stood up in the Patna Leg and it was their lead Raider Guman Singh. In the game against Tamil Thalaivas, while others just couldn’t score a point he was a dominant force against a strong Thalaivas defense. Earlier in the Patna Leg, he scored his first of the two super 10s from Patna by scoring 11 points against Fazel Atrachali & Gujarat Giants.
Nitin Kumar (Bengal Warriors)
Another team that has struggled big time is the Bengal Warriors with the season seven champions in tenth place in the points table. One of the bright spots is Nitin Kumar who made an instant impact in the Patna Leg. The Right Raider started the Patna Leg with a Super-10 against the Patna Pirates and finished with an impressive performance against Haryana with nine points.
Mohammadreza Chiyaneh (Puneri Paltan)
Mohammadreza Chiyaneh walks into the Team of the Week for another week as he continues to lead from the front. His presence seems to be inevitable as he has been racking up points both as a Raider and as a defender. With 12 points from two games, he ensured the Paltans stayed in the top two of the points table when they left the Pataliputra Indoor Stadium.
Ankit (Patna Pirates)
Patna Pirates’ surge in the points table has to be credited to Ankit from the right corner position. Ankit was collecting defense points on his own and had a very explosive effort against the Bengaluru Bulls. Against the Bulls, he scored eight points in all. In addition, he had a strong effort and scored six points in the game against the Gujarat Giants. The corner defender ended the home leg with 19 points and will be a force to reckon with.
Mayur Kadam (Patna Pirates)
Mayur Kadam’s introduction to Patna Pirates has given the team a new ease of life. The Right Cover defender started the home leg with two High-five against two strong defensive units Bengal Warriors and Puneri Paltans. Although he lacked consistency in the next few games, his presence has added much-needed strength to the three-time champions. At the start of the leg, he made his debut in the Patna team, and at the end of the leg, he made his debut in Team of the Week.
Reza Mirbagheri (Jaipur Pink Panthers)
Iranian defender Reza Mirbagheri of the Jaipur Pink Panthers, playing in the left corner position impressed during the Patna leg, scoring seven points in two matches. Reza Mirbagheri scored three points against the Bengaluru Bulls and four points against the Tamil Thalaivas. Much like his skipper Sunil Kumar, the Iranian is slowly becoming the all-rounder a squad requires.
