Will Telugu Titans retain Pawan Sehrawat for next season? PKL 10 season review

The franchise finished at the bottom of the table for the third consecutive time.

The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) has been a source of the finest Kabaddi action across the globe and the league has never failed to live up to its hype. The league is on the verge of wrapping up its tenth edition after the playoffs are done and dusted.

While the top six teams have made it to the knockouts, the other six teams have had a season to forget. And one such team is the Telugu Titans who’ve failed to qualify for the knockouts for the sixth consecutive season. Moreover, they have also finished at the bottom of the table for three seasons in a row, including PKL 10.

On that note, let us take a look at Telugu Titans’ journey in PKL 10.

Top performers

Pawan Sehrawat

The Indian skipper became the most expensive player in the history of PKL after being bought by the Telugu Titans for 2.6 Cr INR. He was also made the Titans’ captain for this season and did everything he could, but did not get the required support from his teammates. He lived up to his price tag and accumulated 217 points, the third-best in the league, but couldn’t prevent his team from finishing at the bottom of the table.

Robin Chaudhary

Robin Chaudhary was also one of the star performers for the Titans. The raider earned 55 points and was the second highest points getter in the Titans’ camp. He converted 55 points out of 125 raids while maintaining a conversion rate of 32%. Moreover, he also had a not-out percentage of close to 61%.

Sanjeevi S

The All-rounder was the third-highest point-getter for the Telugu Titans as he accumulated 49 points in 17 matches. He has 41 raid points and eight tackle points to his name and was one of the three top performers for his side. He averaged 2.41 points per match while maintaining a not-out percentage of almost 71%.

Underperformer of the season

Parvesh Bhaniswal

The defender was retained by the Telugu Titans for PKL 10 after being an expensive purchase in PKL 9. However, he could not repay the management’s trust and was the most underperforming player for the Titans. He failed to live up to the expectations and only managed to secure eight points in 15 matches.

Special mentions

Despite a disappointing season, the Titans do have a few positive takeaways. Mohit recorded 39 points and was one of the top performers for his side. Ajit Pawar secured 36 points while Milad Jabbari recorded 35 points to his name.

Manager’s report card

Former India and current Bangladesh boss Srinivasreddy Lingampally is the head coach of the Telugu Titans. He was handed the hot seat ahead of PKL 10 in April 2023. However, he has failed to live up to his reputation as Telugu Titans finished at the bottom of the league table for the third season on the bounce. 

Lessons to be learned

Telugu Titans did finish at the bottom of the league standing but sit in the first spot for the most number of raid points scored by a team. The Titans are the only side to have crossed the 1000 mark at the end of the group stage fixtures. Their points tally speaks volumes about their depth in the raiding department.

But, the actual problem lies at the back in the defense line. The Titans need to get in better defenders who align with their vision and style of play and should come back stronger next season. Moreover, the overdependence on Pawan Sehrawat also caused them a lot this season.
