The 33-years-old Raider will lead Himachal Pradesh in the tournament.

India’s ace raider Ajay Thakur will make a comeback on the Kabaddi mat in the upcoming 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championships. The Himachal Pradesh state Kabaddi Association picked him to lead the team in the tournament.

The competition will take place in Jaipur from the 2nd to the 6th of March 2020. A total of 55 teams will participate in the tournament from all over India.

Ajay Thakur did not play for Himachal Pradesh in the tournament last year. However, the former Indian Kabaddi team captain is ready to take his team to the glory this time around.

He had been out due to an injury after Pro Kabaddi Season 7 and also missed the 2019 South Asian Games in Nepal where the Indian team won the gold medal.

Himachal Pradesh had a bad outing in the tournament last year as the won only two games and lost the remaining two. Although with a stronger team this year, the Himachal men would be looking to finish off in a better place compared to last year.

Apart from Thakur, the team comprises of another 15 players. Out of the total 16, four players have been kept on standby in case someone from the selected 12 gets injured.

The squad includes Ajay Thakur, Ram Gopal, Kamal Chandel, Baldev Singh, Surinder Pal, Nitesh Singh, Subhash, Naveen Kumar, Ajitesh, Vishal, Surinder, Umesh Kumar, Vishesh Chandel, Ashish Puharta, Sanjeev Thakur, Mukesh.

The state Kabaddi Association also announced the women’s team for the tournament. Priyanka Negi is one of the top players from the state and the whole team will revolve around her expertise.

They reached the semifinals of the tournament in last year and had faced a 23-26 defeat against the might Haryana. A total of 12 players have been selected for the tournament.

Apart from Priyanka, the team includes Jyoti, Pushpa, Kavita, Sweety, Sushma, Nidhi Sharma, Lalita, Bhawana Devi, Reena, Minakshi, Simran.
