New dates for 6th Asian Women's Kabaddi Championship announced; know here

Defending champions India will enter the 6th Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championship to retain the title.
The Asian Kabaddi Federation has announced the dates for the sixth edition of the Asian Women’s Kabaddi Championships. The continental federation announced on Tuesday that the event will take place in Tehran, Iran from the 4th of March to the 9th of March this year. The Iranian capital hosted the second edition of the tournament in 2007.
Tehran became the first city to host the competition more than once. This will be the sixth edition of the tournament and the organisers want to conduct it regularly. Despite playing the inaugural edition in 2005, after two decades the Kabaddi World has seen just five editions till now. Even the sixth edition was in trouble with dates being changed constantly.

Initially, it was scheduled to be held in Tehran from 20 to 25 February. But with India playing their Senior Kabaddi Nationals in the same week, the organisers pushed it by a fortnight and now it has been confirmed by the organisers that it will be played from the 4th of March to the 9th of March.

The tournament will see 12 teams competing against each other for the highest honour from Asia. Defending champion India will enter the tournament to retain the title. They picked a 20-member probable squad from the recently concluded 71st Senior Women’s Kabaddi Nationals. The squad is full of the usual suspects.
The likes of Ritu, Jyoti, Sakshi Sharma, and Bhavana Devi will look to form the core of the side. Sonali Vishnu Shingate makes a comeback into the Indian Team after five years. She was part of the 2018 Asian Games squad which won the Silver medal and the 2019 South Asian Games squad which won the Gold. She was the star of the National Games as she helped her team win the title in the Golden Raid of the match.
Tejaswini Bai, Kavita Selvaraj, and Banani Saha have selected the squad. India will look to continue their dominating run in the tournament having won the Gold medal in four of the five occasions the tournament has been held. It will not be an easy task as many teams like Chinese Taipei, South Korea, and Iran will pose a tough challenge. This tournament will mark the launching pad for the second Women’s Kabaddi World Cup to be held in Bihar this year.
