The player will be a good addition to the squad in the ongoing season.

The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) outfit Jaipur Pink Panthers have received a boost with the inclusion of Brijendra Chaudhary. He joins the squad as a replacement for Amit Hooda, who is reportedly bowing out due to an injury.

The winners of the inaugural season of the premier Kabaddi competition in India are one of the strong teams this year. They already have the likes of Arjun Deshwal in the team, who is amongst the best performers in the division.

However, Kabaddi is a game of fine balance, won by good attack and defence. According to a source in the know of the developments, "Brijendra was bought by Haryana Steelers in the PKL 8 auction for ₹55 lakhs. However, they ended up releasing him before the start of the season citing fitness concerns. As it happens, Jaipur have signed the player, who has become fit and available to participate in the PKL."

Another source told Khel Now, "If the player was released by the Steelers citing injury concerns, then how could he recover so quickly to turn out for Jaipur Pink Panthers. There is more to the situation than a mere injury issue."

Importance of signing

Jaipur Pink Panthers retained Amit Hooda and the defender was to play a crucial role this season. However, he could only manage two appearances for the team, before suffering an injury. Now, bringing in an all-rounder like Brijendra Chaudhary adds a layer of protection in the defensive department.

Hooda’s injury could have proved to be a negative factor in Jaipur’s season. The team are currently sitting in ninth place, but still have the chance to rise up the standings with a few positive results. Chaudhary, being an all-rounder, will also provide cover in the raiding department. This will give someone like Deshwal a breather, as the team had become overly reliant on him to bring points during raids.

He made his first appearance for Jaipur Pink Panthers against the Tamil Thalaivas in a 34-34 draw, scoring five points. It will be interesting to see what kind of an impact this signing will have at the end of the season and whether Haryana Steelers will regret releasing a player of Brijendra’s quality.
