Ex-Indian Kabaddi Captain Deepak Hooda loses election from his constituency in Haryana
Deepak Hooda finished fourth in his constituency.
Legendary kabaddi all-rounder Deepak Niwas Hooda, who was contesting from the Meham constituency, suffered a massive defeat in the Haryana State Legislative Assembly elections. However, his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a total of 41 seats and is leading in 7 seats, thus crossing the majority mark of 90 and looking set to return to power. The Indian National Congress (INC) has won 31 seats and is currently leading in 6 more.
Indian National Congress candidate won from the Meham constituency, getting a total of 56865 votes. He is followed by Balraj Kundu (Haryana Jan Sevak Party: 38805 votes) and Radha Ahlawat (Independent: 29211 votes). Deepak came fourth, securing a total of 8929 votes, thus having 47936 votes less than the winner.
This is a significant jolt for the 30-year-old at the start of his political career, considering he could have been having bigger ambitions going forward.
Deepak Niwas Hooda not part of PKL 11
Deepak Hooda is one of the greats of the game. In the Pro Kabaddi League, he amassed a total of 1119 points, which includes 1020 raid points and 99 tackle points, in nine seasons.
The former Indian team skipper played for the Telugu Titans in the first two seasons of the league. His performances improved, after his move to the Puneri Paltan. While the team couldn’t win any titles, the all-rounder’s stats were quite good in seasons 3,4 and 5. He scored a total of 186 points in 24 matches in season 5.
The lad from Rohtak further upped his game in season 6, with his new team Jaipur Pink Panthers. He had his best-ever season in the league, scoring 208 points (196 raid points and 12 tackle points) in total. More success awaited him in the seventh season.
However, the pandemic-enforced break resulted in him having a dip in performance. After an under-par performance in the eighth edition, Deepak was released by the Pink Panthers.
He was then selected by the Bengal Warriors in the ninth season. He had a horrendous time, scoring just 56 points (47 raid points and 9 tackle points) in 17 matches. As a result, he was released before the auctions for the tenth edition.
Unfortunately, Deepak Hooda couldn’t find any takers in the auctions for the tenth as well as the eleventh seasons. As a result, the kabaddi legendary decided to work on his political ambitions.
