Gujarat Giants appoint Ram Mehar Singh as new head coach
The head coach was previously employed by Patna Pirates.
Ram Mehar Singh, who made Patna Pirates the champion of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), has left the team's management. He has been appointed by the Gujarat Giants team as their new head coach. The Kabaddi fans are left surprised by the head coach leaving Patna Pirates.
Ram Mehar Singh had made Patna Pirates the champions in the 2017 PKL season. Last year under his coaching the team reached the finals of the league. However, from the next season, he will now be seen with a new team.
The Gujarat Giants team informed about the appointment of the former Patna Pirates coach as the head coach of the team on their social handles. “We heartily welcome Giant of the Game- Ram Mehar Singh as the head coach of Gujarat Giants,” read the announcement.
Manpreet Singh was the coach of Gujarat Giants till now. The team performed well under his coaching but failed to win the PKL title. This can be seen as a possible reason why the franchise has appointed Ram Mehar Singh as their coach before the next season, who has the experience of winning the PKL title.
Before PKL season 8, a lot of questions were being raised on how Patna would play without Pardeep Narwal but the coach of the team, Ram Mehar Singh, brought together new and experienced players to form a brilliant team which made it to the finals. After the victory, the coach was welcomed with great warmth in his village.
Ram Mehar Singh has a lot of experience both as a player and as a coach. He was the captain of the Indian team that won gold medals in the 1998 and 2002 Asian Games. He was also honoured with the Arjuna Award in 2003.
