Kabaddi drops one spot in list of most followed sports in India

Cricket and football are currently leading the chart in India.
Kabaddi, India’s very own sport has dropped to third place behind Football in the list of most followed sports in the country. In a study conducted by Ormax Media across India, it was revealed that Kabaddi has taken the back seat behind football in a race that has Cricket as their leader by a huge margin.
The organization released The Ormax Sports Audience Report after India’s largest sports research taken from November 2023 to January 2024 covering 12000 people across Urban and rural sectors of India. The research was about 21 sports, 53 tournaments, and 52 clubs/franchises including several aspects of the behavior of the Indian audiences.
Cricket with 612 million viewers gets the top spot with ease, followed by Football at a distant second with 305 million. Kabaddi comes in third place with 280 million. Kabaddi had occupied the second place in the last few years but has dropped down a place in the latest report. Football apart from the Indian Super League, enjoys a huge fan following for overseas football leagues like English Premier League and La Liga.
The fact that even the clubs from EPL, La Liga, and Bundesliga have made efforts to form a base in India because of the fan base is being reflected in this survey. While Chennai Super Kings is the most recalled franchise in India, Football’s Manchester United takes the second place ahead of PKL’s Patna Pirates. With the Pro Kabaddi League being the biggest league in Kabaddi has 280 million viewers and it is expected to grow.
