PKL 11: 3 key players of Tamil Thalaivas in Pro Kabaddi League season 11

Thalaivas have brought the most expensive player in this year’s auction.

The 10th edition of the Pro Kabaddi League was a season to forget for Tamil Thalaivas. They finished ninth in the league table with only nine wins from 22 matches. To change their fortunes, the side made a huge statement by making the most expensive purchase during the auction ahead of the 2024-25 season of the league.

Sachin Tanwar was expected to fetch a high price in the auction but his becoming the most expensive buy was a genuine surprise. Tamil Thalaivas splashed Rs 2.15 crore to secure the services of the star raider who has been a consistent performer over the years.

The objective for Tamil Thalaivas would be securing qualification into the playoffs and ideally lifting the trophy at the end of the season. However, realistically speaking, the side would do well to reach the playoffs alone, which would be a huge improvement on the disappointing performance in the 10th edition of the PKL.

Furthermore, it remains to be seen how the appointment of Udaya Kumar as chief coach and Dharmaraj Cheralathan as strategy coach works on the mat when the season begins. Looking at their squad, a huge chunk of responsibility would fall on the shoulders of Sachin Tanwar. Having said that, a few individuals could play key roles and provide him ample support. On that note, here’s a look at the three key players of Tamil Thalaivas in PKL 11.

3. Sagar

Sagar scored 66 tackle points in 18 appearances for the Tamil Thalaivas during the previous campaign. The defender has been a consistent performer for the outfit. He has scored more than 50 points in the last three terms consecutively.

Tamil Thalaivas are relying on stability in their defensive structure. With Sachin Tanwar scoring points from raids and figures like Sagar contributing in defense, the signs look promising for the outfit.

2. Sahil Gulia

Sahil Gulia was one of the few positives to take away for the Tamil Thalaivas from a disappointing campaign last time around. The defender scored 69 tackle points from 22 appearances, the seventh-highest tally by a defender in the 10th edition of the Pro Kabaddi League.

Similar to Sagar’s case, Sahil Gulia has been with the Tamil Thalaivas for the past three seasons. He produced his best performance last year and the fans will hope that the defender can replicate his performances in the 2024-25 campaign.

1. Sachin Tanwar

Sachin Tanwar has been a consisyent performer in the Pro Kabaddi League. In the past three seasons, the star raider has scored 181, 179 and 184 points respectively. Both the Tamil Thalaivas and Tanwar are yet to get their hands on the PKL trophy despite their best efforts.

Going into the 2024-25 season, Sachin Tanwar would hope to repay the faith shown by the Tamil Thalaivas in his abilities. He is a great captain and loves to lead by example. With a decent defense backing him, Tanwar’s performance could be the difference-maker for the side.
