71st Senior National Men's Kabaddi Championship: Day 1 Results

Defending champions Haryana and hosts Odisha are among the teams that started their campaigns with wins.
The 71st Senior National Men’s Kabaddi Championship got off to a dominating start with favorites notching impressive wins on Day 1 of the championships. 30 teams have arrived at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack which saw the Hosts Odisha starting the tournament with an easy win against Vidarbha with a 57-28 scoreline.
It was the turn of the defending champions, Haryana, who placed alongside Delhi and Telangana in Group A. Ashu Malik continued from where he left last year. Star Raider was at his dominating best. He got full support from Nitin Dhankhar and Mohit Goyat. He will look to notch up another win against Delhi and make it to the next round.
The dominance continued in the third match in Pool B, where last year’s finalists Indian Railways took on Manipur. It was a no-match, with the Sunil Kumar-led side taking the win with a 50-15 scoreline. It was only in the fourth game of the day that a thrilling contest took place. A star-studded Maharastra took on Kerala in a Pool C fixture.

Kerala might have lacked Star power on paper but they showcased their potential on the mat against the likes of Akash Shinde, Ajit Chouhan, Shivam Patare, and Sanket Sawant. The team from God’s own country put in a valiant fight but it wasn’t enough to beat Maharashtra as they lost 35-38.
Fans gathered in big numbers to witness Indian skipper Pawan Sehrawat in action for Chandigarh. He alongside Gaurav Khatri made light work of Gujarat to start their campaign emphatically. The day ended with another Pool D contest with Madhya Pradesh taking on Andhra Pradesh. It was an easy win for MP to cap off a wonderful day of Kabaddi.
There will be 36 games on Friday with all the top stars. The league matches will be completed by the day and the weekend will witness knockouts starting from Pre-Quarterfinals.
