National Men's Kabaddi Championship: Haryana, Odisha, 14 other teams seal pre-quarterfinals spot

The final of the 71st Senior National Men’s Kabaddi Championship will be held on Sunday, February 23.

Odisha witnessed high-octane Kabaddi action on Day 2 of the 71st Senior National Men’s Kabaddi Championship. A total of 26 matches happened on the second day of the competition featuring top stars of Indian Kabaddi Pawan Sehrawat, Naveen Kumar, Rahul Chaudhari, Arjun Deshwal, and many more.

Title contenders Services started the day with an outstanding 70-33 win over Chhattisgarh. They booked their place in the pre-quarterfinals with another easy win over Goa. Opponents get star-studded with the presence of trios in both the raiding and defensive departments. Naveen Kumar, Devank Dalal, and Bharat Hooda had the opposition defenders on their toes.

Ankit Jaglan, Jaideep Dahiya, and Rahul Sethpal helped them top Pool E in the league. Another team that dominated their opponents to top the points table is the defending champions Haryana. Ashu Malik was unstoppable on Friday as he led Haryana into pre-quarterfinals. They will take on a spirited Tamil Nadu side, who notched up a convincing win against Pondicherry.

They had a hard-fought game against Rahul Chaudhari-led Uttar Pradesh as the men from the south lost it by a point. Last year finalists Indian Railways continued their good form from the first day to defeat Bihar 45-27 to top the Pool B charts. Teams of other PKL stars were on the winning side on Friday.

Sachin Tanwar-led Rajasthan, Pawan Sehrawat-led Chandigarh, and Ajit Chouhan-led Maharashtra all booked their place in the Pre-Quarterfinals. The top two teams from each Pool will qualify for the Round of 16. It will be knockouts from that round with the final scheduled to play on Sunday.

The performance will be keenly watched by Balwant Singh, BC Ramesh, and Jaiveer Sharma, who have been appointed as selectors of Indian prospects from the competition.
