PKL 10 Eliminator 1: Patna Pirates secure semifinal spot by beating Dabang Delhi in nail-biting thriller
Patna will play against Puneri in the semis.
It was an entertaining clash as Patna Pirates took on Dabang Delhi KC in eliminator 1 of PKL 10 at the GMC Balayogi Sports Complex, Hyderabad. Patna Pirates started on the right note before Dabang Delhi grew stronger in the game. Both sides inflicted an all-out on each other in the first half.
Dabang Delhi fought well and took the lead at the end of the first. The first-half score was 20-19 in favor of Dabang Delhi with Ashu Malik solely scoring 12 points out of the 20 points for his side. Sachin scored seven out of 19 points for the Pirates in the first half.
Dabang Delhi continued to build upon their lead in the second half and looked dominant from the get-go. Patna Pirates climbed their way back and leveled the scores at the end of the third phase as both teams were tied 25-25.
Dabang Delhi started the final phase as the better side as Patna Pirates were not able to cope with Delhi’s gameplan. The game took a nail-biting turn in the finals stages as Ashu Malik stepped out of the mat and Delhi pulled off a super tackle on Sachin. After Patna Pirates shocked their opposition with an all-out and then three crucial points and made it their night in Hyderabad.
They were trailing in the final 90 seconds of the game and then pulled off the unthinkable and settled scores with Dabang Delhi for the final of PKL 8. The Pirates changed the storyline in the dying seconds of the game and are through to the semi-finals.
What’s next?
Patna Pirates have cleared the first obstacle in the knockouts and are now through to the semi-finals. The Pirates will face off against the league leaders Puneri Paltan on February 28 in the first semi-final at 8 PM IST at the very same venue.
