Maninder Singh captained Bengal Warriors to the PKL title in 2019.

Telugu Titans, having bagged Pawan Sehrawat earlier in the day, started the war for Maninder Singh with Rs 70 lakhs. The Bengaluru Bulls and their ever-smiling coach Randhir Singh Sehrawat took it to 87 lakhs which brought a thunder of applause in the arena. The UP Yoddhas joined the bandwagon for the two-time champion, but it was Bulls who won the final bid at Rs 1.15cr. But the open secret unfolded with Bengal using FBM to get him back.

The Bengal Warriors made a steal earlier in the day by bagging Fazel Atrachali at just 50 lakhs and it was expected that they will exercise the option for Final Bid Match. After huge deliberations with their larger management they decided to get him back for the seventh consecutive season. The team from east will look to repeat the result of season seven when they were on top of the podium.

The Mighty Maninder Singh has found himself on the right side of the success more often than not. His Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) career began with a trophy with Jaipur Pink Panthers in the inaugural edition with 130 points. But fate had other ideas as injury ruled him out of the competition for the next three seasons.

Season five auction saw him get a hefty price tag of Rs 45.5 lakhs. It was a season filled with raids where he outsmarted the defenders with his agility. He scored 190 points which helped the Bengal Warriors top the table in their group. The man from Punjab became the fastest to 400 and 500 raid points in season six which again helped the Warriors booked a place in the playoffs.

PKL 7 saw the Bengal Warriors lift the PKL trophy. Along with Mohammad Nabibakhsh, Maninder guided the team to the PKL title, beating Dabang Delhi in the finals. Much like fine wine, he seemed to get better as his best seasons came in the next two with 264 and 240 points. But it wasn’t getting the team into the next stage.

To the surprise of many, Bengal released him ahead of the season 10 auctions. However, the season seven champions couldn’t get any raiders as they used the Final Bid Match card (FBM) to get him back to the team at 2.12 cr, making him the highest ever to be bought using the option.

It was yet another season where Mani delivered close to 200 points with a raid strike rate of 60%. Season 11 promises to be no different.
