Sachin Tanwar had been a key player for the Patna Pirates, for the last three seasons.

Tamil Thalaivas have signed Sachin Tanwar, for a whopping price of Rs 2.15 Cr at the Pro Kabaddi League Season 11 auctions. He will be joining another exciting Indian player, Narender Kandola, in the team and share raiding duties.

The PKL 11 Auction is being conducted today and tomorrow, in Mumbai. More than 500 players, with varied skillsets have been up for grabs. With only 88 players (which includes 22 Elite Retained Players) being retained by the 12 franchisees, it has been a blockbuster evening. Stars of modern-day kabaddi, including the likes of Pawan Sehrawat, Mohammadreza Shadloui, among others, went under the hammer.

Sachin Tanwar scored 171 raid points (with 7 super 10s) in 22 matches last season for the Patna Pirates. He played a crucial role in his team’s entry into the playoffs, where they exited after a defeat in the semifinals against Puneri Paltan. He was released ahead of the auction for the eleventh season.

Telugu Titans started their bid at Rs. 70 lakhs, instead of the prescribed base price of Rs. 30 lakhs for the Category A raiders, showing aggression upfront. UP Yoddha joined them in the race. The Titans dropped out soon, but the Gujarat Giants jumped into the race.

At Rs 1.59 Cr, the Giants opted out. The Tamil Thalaivas then picked up the paddle for the first time tonight. Towards the end of the bidding war, they made huge jumps, which the Yoddhas weren’t able to match. The Chennai based franchisee thus won the bid at Rs 2.15 Cr. With the Patna Pirates choosing not to exercise their Final Bid Match (FBM) Card, Sachin Tanwar officially became a Thalaiva for the first time!

The 25-year-old made his debut in season 5 for the Gujarat Giants. Ever since, he has been a huge asset for the teams he has played for, having amassed 952 raid points in the last 6 seasons. He has scored 150+ raid points in all but one of the seasons. He has occasionally helped his team out in defence too!

He made his debut in Gujarat’s 26-20 victory over Dabang Delhi, where he scored three points. However, his fortunes changed and Sachin ended the season with 159 raid points. He finished as the best raider for the team and played a key role in Gujarat reaching the final in it’s very first season of inception.

He then had an even more stellar season next time around, scoring 190 raid points as Gujarat finished at the top of Group A, before again losing in the final. He managed to end among the top 10 raiders for the second successive season.

However, Sachin couldn’t replicate his performance in the next season as he scored meagre 84 raid points in 16 matches. This had a telling on his team’s performance too, as they finished nineth in the table.

The raider from Churu, Rajasthan was then released before the auction for the eighth season, where he was picked up by the Patna Pirates. The efforts of reputed coach Ram Mehar Singh had a huge effect, as Sachin’s work rate had now significantly increased.

He managed to return to the list of top 10 players, scoring 172 raid points in 23 matches. More importantly, he led his team to the final where they lost by one point to Dabang Delhi.

In the nineth season, Patna finished tenth in the points table. However, Sachin had played his part, scoring 176 raid points.

In the tenth season, he played a key part in leading Patna back into the playoffs. In fact, he also had to play with a relatively young team. Ahead of the eleventh season, he was released into the auction pool.

Sachin is mainly known for his consistency. His X-factor is his high success rate in do-or-die raids.

Sachin made his India debut in the gold medal winning Asian Kabaddi Championships 2017 campaign. He was also part of the squad, which won gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games 2022. However, he has found it difficult to nail a spot in the starting seven in the team, with stars like Pawan Sehrawat, Naveen Kumar and Aslam Inamdar present.
