Dabang Delhi K.C. have strengthened their team at the auctions, going into the eleventh edition of the league.

Season 8 champions Dabang Delhi K.C. will take on Season 2 champions U Mumba, thus beginning their Pro Kabaddi League Season 11 (PKL 11) campaign, on October 18 in Hyderabad. This fixture will be followed by a date with neighbours UP Yoddhas on October 21.

The Pro Kabaddi League is being held in a cluster caravan format this time, with only three cities namely Hyderabad, Noida and Pune hosting the league stage matches. Each day consists of a double header, with only two rest days across the duration of the league stage.

The Dabang Delhi will be playing their first nine matches in the southern city, which includes a clash against the home team Telugu Titans on October 26. They will play their first reverse fixture on November 5, when they take on U Mumba. After their match against Tamil Thalaivas on November 8, they will be moving to Noida, a city where they can expect a lot of support considering its proximity to Delhi.

The Naveen Kumar led side will begin their second leg on November 12, with a massive clash against defending champions Puneri Paltan. They will play a total of six matches in the city, again ending the leg with a clash against the Thalaivas, on December 1.

In their third and final leg, in Pune, the Dabang Delhi will start off with a clash on December 5, against the Yoddhas. They will then play the home team on December 9. They will meet the Gujarat Giants on December 23, which will mark the end of the league stages for them.

Interestingly half of the Delhi-based franchisee’s matches begin at 8:00 PM, while the remaining eleven matches constitute the second match of the double header on the respective days.

Each team will play a total of 22 matches. The top two teams will qualify for the semifinals directly, while the next four teams will play the Eliminators to decide the remaining two semifinalists.

After struggling for much of the first five seasons, the Dabang Delhi have been a transformed unit since the sixth edition, which marked the arrival of the ‘Naveen Express’ in the league, as they have reached the playoffs in the last five seasons. Last season, they finished third in the table with 79 points, before losing to the Patna Pirates by a margin of just two points in the Eliminator.

Naveen, who is also a key member of the Indian team, will be looking to stay fit this time, considering he was ruled out due to an injury after playing just six matches last season. He will be accompanied by last season’s joint top scorer Ashu Malik and the newly bought Siddharth Desai, one of the most powerful albeit injury prone raiders in the league.

As for their defence, Delhi contains the likes of Yogesh Dahiya, who was the Emerging Player of the Season last time, Ashish Malik and Vikrant Khokar in their ranks.

With a well-balanced team, the Dabang Delhi K.C. look like strong contenders on paper to win their second title. It will definitely be worth keeping an eye on whether they can maintain their consistency on the mat.
