On facing Dabang Delhi in the PKL 11 semifinals

The match, held at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, saw the Patna Pirates dominate from the outset, thanks to a stellar 10-point performance by Ayan Lohchab and a crucial High 5 from Gurdeep. The victory set up a thrilling Semi-Final 2 clash against Dabang Delhi K.C. Patna Pirates have been unbeaten against them this season with a win and draw.

“We have to win our next match and we have to focus on our goal. We play the way our coach tells us and we win playing together, so we will do the same the next match, ” said Devank.

“Delhi are a good team and they have been great. We will not think about our previous matches and come with a fresh mindset. They have two very good raiders in Ashu Malik and Naveen and Yogender has been good too in defence, so we will make a plan accordingly, ” added the Patna Pirates coach.

On Patna Pirates’ players and their performance

The game began with Patna Pirates taking control early. An ALL OUT just eight minutes into the match gave them a significant lead. Ayan Lohchab stepped up in attack, while the defence, led by Gurdeep and Ankit, kept U Mumba’s key raiders in check. By halftime, the Pirates had extended their advantage to 17-11.

“Our raiding department is sorted. We have the two raiders – Devank and Ayan duo has come up big this time. Their left and right combination is very good and they have shouldered the raiding duties very well. In defence Ankit, Gurdeep and our NYP Navdeep have been very well. Our offence and defence are playing really well and we have to see how we can set the team in the semis, ” said Patna Pirates coach.

“As for Ankit, he has done very well as captain and has maintained a spirit of brotherhood and a very good atmosphere in the team,” he added.

“I hope these players get better and stay injury-free because they are assets and upcoming stars for the Indian Kabaddi and the league as well, ” he added.

On U Mumba’s performance

In the second half, Ayan continued to excel, delivering both raid points and a decisive Super Tackle. Despite a spirited effort from U Mumba’s substitutes, including M Dhanasekar, the Pirates’ tactical discipline proved too strong. Their smart play in the final minutes ensured they held onto their lead, underlining why they remain one of the most formidable sides in PKL 11. With this win, Patna Pirates are one step closer to reclaiming the title.

“I think our team’s performance was not very well. We made mistakes and gave away the match. Our defence made a lot of mistakes and that puts a pressure on the raiders who made mistakes as well, ” concluded U Mumba head coach.
