The two-time finalists lack a bit of experience in the defence.

Gujarat Giants has followed a mysterious strategy that is waiting to reveal itself in season 11 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL 11). Having made it to the finals in their first-ever season, they let go of Fazel Atrachali in the next season. They again reacquired his services and the Iranians took them to the playoffs. But they have again released him ahead of the season 11.

The fact that the Gujarat Giants didn’t use their FBM card to get Fazel back was shocking as their former skipper went for just 50 lakhs to Bengal Warriorz. He is still one of the top players in the world of Kabaddi and has the most tackle points in the history of the Pro Kabaddi League. Still, coach Ram Mehar Singh opted out of it.

To the delight of the Gujarat Giants, they did use the FBM to buy Sombir Gulia who played a pivotal role in the other corner. The two-time finalists also bought former Patna Pirates skipper Neeraj Kumar who will be a great asset in the right cover. By retaining Balaji D and buying back Mohammad Nabibhaksh, the coach has shown faith in them. Both would like to have a big season if Gujarat wants to be on the right side.

But the Giants can make giant strides in the season as they have a formidable raiding unit. Rakesh Sangroya, who has scored 387 points in three seasons, and Parteek Dahiya’s 324 points in two seasons have booked a place for themselves this season. They will be joined by Gujarat’s marquee purchase of Guman Singh for 1.97 cr. These three will have to do the majority of the scoring if they stand a chance of making it to the playoffs.

Gujarat Giants squad for PKL 11:

Raiders: Rakesh, Parteek Dahiya, Nitin, Guman Singh, Monu, Himanshu

Defenders: Sombir, Vahid RezaEimehr, Neeraj Kumar, Harsh Mahesh Lad, Mohit, Manuj, Nitesh

All-rounders: Jitender Yadav, Balaji D, Mohammad Esmaeil Nabibakhsh, Raj D. Salunkhe, Rohan Singh
