PKL 11: Key battles to watch out for in match 29, UP Yoddhas vs Patna Pirates
UP Yoddhas are coming into this game after two consecutive losses in PKL 11.
UP Yoddhas are set to take on Patna Pirates in Match 29 of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 11 (PKL 11) of the Hyderabad Leg. Both, the Yoddhas and the Pirates are coming into the game after losing their previous one by two points.
The GMR-owned franchise lost 28-30 to the Haryana Steelers, whereas the Patna-based franchise went down 26-28 against the Telugu Titans. The losses leave the two sides in the third and second-last place on the PKL 11 points table respectively.
The UP Yoddhas will hope their captain Surender Gill finds his form back. He has just a point from the last three PKL 11 games each. Shubham Shinde, Patna Pirates’ captain, hasn’t had a great season so far either. The defence of the three-time champions would hope for their leader to lead from the front against a team that has four great raiding options.

UP Yoddhas have a raiding lineup that will leave everyone envious of them. While Bharat Hooda leads from the front, other options include the likes of captain Surinder Gill, Bhavani Rajpoot, and Gagan Gowda. Their defence comes with a lot of experience and Jasveer Singh would hope that Sumit gets help from the likes of Mahender Singh, Ashu, and Sahul Kumar. Mohammadreza Kaboudrahangi has impressed in the few minutes he gets to be on the mat in PKL 11.
Patna Pirates will hope youngster Ayan Lohchab breaks out this season to help Devank in the department. Ankit Jaglan and Deepak Rathee, under the leadership of Shubham Shinde, would be key against the raiding depth of UP Yoddhas that no one can match in the league.
Sumit vs Devank
Devank is the only raider to have somewhat consistently scored points for the Pirates in PKL 11. The right-raider scored a whopping 25 points against Tamil Thalaivas, outscoring both Narender Kandola and Sachin Tanwar combinedly. Against Telugu Titans, Devank scored two points more than Hi-Flyer Pawan Sehrawat.
Sumit is the most in-form defender of the Yoddhas this season in PKL 11. The left corner has scored 20 points in five games, only one point less than the leader, Gaurav Khatri.
Bharat vs Ankit Jaglan
Bharat and Ankit Jaglan are the only all-rounders to get consistent game time on the mat for the two teams in PKL 11. While Bharat is an all-rounder who specialises in the raiding department, Ankit Jaglan has held up his own with the defensive duties of the Pirates.
Bharat has the most points of all the raiders of UP Yoddhas and Ankit Jaglan has the most tackle points of all the defenders of the Patna Pirates. So the battle between the two would most likely have a huge say on the outcome of the PKL 11 game.
Surender Gill vs Shubham Shinde
Both, Surender Gill and Shubham Shinde, have underperformed in the first few games of the two franchises. For the two franchises to overcome their recent defeat and play consistently well to qualify for the knock-out stages, their captains will have to pull their socks up and start contributing more often.
Surinder Gill has only one Super 10 in five games whereas Shubham Shinde is yet to score his first High 5 of the season. It would be interesting to see who comes out on top in the battle between the two underperforming captains.
